It’s clear that using pictures can transform your document and give life to the most mundane of subjects. Most desktop publishing apps make it easy for you to insert photos, add effects, and wrap text around, but what about the photos themselves?

Smartphones these days generally have excellent cameras and we have the technology in our hands, every day to take great photos. But are we missing out on all the features available? Are we using a picture we’ve seen a thousand times before… or a picture that tells a thousand words?

There’s more to an image than just the subject, considering the composition, rule of thirds, lighting and movement can turn a photo into a creative story.

Luckily for you there is help available, I’ve been doing some research on how to get the best out of your smart phone camera and came upon this excellent article on techradar. http://www.techradar.com/how-to/phone-and-communications/mobile-phones/smartphone-photography-tips-and-tricks-you-should-know-1189841

There are 6 sections about brilliant smartphone photography. From learning to use your camera software, to some of the basics in lighting and composition. Have a read, and see if you can insert not just photos, but great works of art in your next printed document.
